Construction Process
Substrate Treatment and Construction Generally, substrate treatment involves two types: concrete substrate treatment and metal substrate treatment.
( 1 ) Concrete Surface Treatment
A. Clean the Concrete Surface Before applying the primer, it is necessary to clean the substrate surface thoroughly. Use a broom or a high-power
blower to remove surface dirt, dust, debris, and any factors that could reduce adhesion.
B. Repair Concrete Surface Defects
Concrete surfaces can have various defects such as holes, pinholes, eggshell holes, fish-eye cracks, peaks, and hollows.These defects should be repaired before proceeding to the next step. Small defects like holes, pinholes, and eggshell holes can be repaired using specialized polyurea compatible primers. For larger localized defects, use dedicated repair putty to ensure both strength and good adhesion to the concrete substrate.
C. Treatment of expansion joints Concrete undergoes volume changes due to temperature fluctuations. Surface expansion joints prevent cracking during the concrete shrinkage process. Before applying polyurea, expansion joints need to be prepared. Expansion joint treatment should be approached in two ways, each with its advantages and disadvantages:
01). No Slotting Treatment: Reserve the original expansion joint while applying the base material treatment, and the expansion joint will naturally appear when applying polyurethane. Advantages: Convenient treatment; Disadvantages: Obvious traces at expansion joint areas, affecting the appearance.
02). Slotting Treatment: Cut 1 cm on each side of the original expansion joint, seal the bottom with a foam tube, and thenfill with a compatible material.
Advantages: Smooth surface after spraying polyurea, no defects; Disadvantages: More complex treatment.

(2) Surface Treatment of Metal Substrates:
Dry sandblasting is used for rust removal. In order to reduce environmental pollution and create a relatively low-dust environment for operators, quartz sand is used as abrasive material. Pre-treatment: On surfaces requiring anti-corrosion treatment, weld beads, welding slag, and spatter on welded seams should be ground off. Structural corners, uneven surfaces, and welded surfaces should be ground smooth and transitioned. Grease and oil stains should be removed using industrial pure alcohol or acetone. Sandblasting should use dry and clean silica sand, free of oil and impurities, with a moisture content less than 1%. If necessary, the sand should be dried and roasted before use and allowed to cool before application. For metal surfaces that are clean, smooth, or have already been treated to meet construction requirements, you can proceed with primer application directly.
